GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Research Technician I is a full-time position that serves to assist Instructors and Principal Investigators in a research laboratory. Primary responsibilities are to assist in experiments for research projects under supervision of the project head and the PI of the laboratory. This includes collection of and accurate recording of procedures and results, maintenance of databases used in the lab, ordering necessary reagents to conduct experiments, and participation in joint upkeep of the lab. This position requires a person who has Bachelor of Science degree in molecular/cell biology or a related field, pays attention to details, is capable of working independently after training, possesses good verbal and written communication skills, and works well as part of a team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities comprise, but are not limited to:
- Assists senior lab personnel with genetic manipulation of normal and cancer cells. Patient sample handling (e.g. blood, tissue) and training on microfluidic devices will also be part of the work.
- Techniques used will include: PCR, Western blotting, reporter assays, protein assays, plasmid construction and/or mutagenesis, cell transfections, purification of plasmids, cell cycle studies, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
- Has responsibility for ordering common laboratory reagents and general maintenance of the laboratory. Maintains cell lines and plasmids used in experiments.
- Aids in maintaining information in databases for plasmids, cells, antibodies, and primers.
- Participates in upkeep of lab, performs basic maintenance on laboratory equipment (cleans, disassembles, stores, replaces worn parts) and reports equipment requiring advanced repair.
- Organizes and accurately maintains written records of experimental procedures and data collection. Data may be represented as graphs, charts, tables, illustrations, slides, and narrative reports. Assist in preparation of manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.
- Participates in and present data at weekly lab meetings and journal clubs.
