Position Summary
The Research Technician I for the Department of Pharmacy Practicewill perform research in the field of infectious diseases in the laboratory of Dr. Yanan Zhao. Research is related to drug discovery against multidrug resistant bacterial and fungal infections. Key areas of focus in the lab include drug discovery against multidrug resistant bacteria causing both systemic and localized infections; developing and running BSL2 small animal infection models for bacterial and fungal pathogens; and delivering small animal infection models for ESKAPE bacterial pathogens and fungal pathogens to evaluate lead compounds.

Job Duties:
  • Perform general laboratory functions
  • Assist the Senior Research Scientist in designing and performing experiments within an assigned project
  • Perform data collection and analysis of experimental results

The research program incorporates both basic and translational research and is aimed towards clinical translation of its most promising discoveries. The successful incumbent will conduct basic or translational research under the supervision of a full-time Senior Research Scientist. The incumbent will also be responsible for purchasing and maintaining adequate stocks of supplies and reagents. Other responsibilities include maintaining detailed protocols and records of data related to executed laboratory work, organizing and maintaining the lab space, and communicating issues to the Senior Research Scientist, Laboratory Manager, or Departmental Administrator. There is an opportunity to become an integral member of a small productive leading edge research team.

Must be flexible in work schedule. Must be available to occasionally come to the laboratory on weekends for a few hours or stay late in evenings for a given experiment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or equivalent training
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Must be able to work independently and have strong work ethic
  • Computer and organizational skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with animal infection models in infectious disease and working in a BSL2 lab facility
  • Experience with small animal handling
  • Experience with various routes of administration (e.g., intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, intravenous, oral, intradermal, etc.) of compounds and biologics

Physical Demands
Salary Range $35,000 - $40,000
Additional Salary Information The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate.
Work Hours
Monday - Friday
Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.
