Department of Neuroscience

The Department of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical Center is dedicated to research into fundamental questions concerning neuronal and brain functions in health and diseases. Neuroscience stands at the forefront of biology in the exploration of some of the most profound questions concerning living systems. The understanding of how nervous systems function and how they generate integrative behavior and cognition remain one of the most difficult challenges in science today.

Job Summary

Dr. Carla Green's laboratory is seeking a Research Technician II. We have many exciting projects that are focused on how the circadian clock keeps time and how it regulates the many rhythmic processes in the body. Research areas include investigation of the molecular and biochemical mechanisms that make up the circadian clock that resides in each cell and investigation into how the circadian clock regulates metabolism and aging. The research ranges from drug discovery, molecular and biochemical analysis, cell biology and whole animal metabolism and physiology.

Candidates must be comfortable in handling of laboratory mice.

Preferred Experience
  • Willingness to handle laboratory mice and perform tissue collections
  • Background in molecular biology and/or biochemistry
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic team player who is motivated to learn new skills and work independently if needed
Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. OR
  • Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. OR
  • High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Job Duties
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
