Research Technologist, Center for Genomic Medicine
Boston, Massachusetts
Employer: Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH)
Industry: Technician/Technologist/Scientist
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Claussnitzer Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic candidate to join our research group. The Claussnitzer lab at MGH will build a large-scale biobank of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and other specimens with the aim to perform population-scale natural genetic variation screens. This effort will seek to systematically link genetic variation to molecular and cellular phenotypes in the context of metabolic disease.
We are looking for a talented research technician who will contribute to build cell-based biobank and additional research efforts aimed at mapping genetic variations in metabolic cell types and understanding genetic regulation and cellular programs in health and metabolic diseases. This candidate will apply technologies combining the isolation of mesenchymal stem cells from different adipose depot, the isolation of hepatocytes and preparation of histology sections, execution of several molecular biology techniques to systematically link genetic risk variants to their effector genes and measure the impact on cellular metabolic functions using targeted assays and high-throughput and high-content profiling methodologies. Experience with basic and advanced techniques in molecular biology, cell culture and/or biochemistry is highly advantageous. Basic computer skills and previous laboratory experience are preferred.
The Claussnitzer lab is a fun, fast-paced, impact-driven, collaborative environment, located at the Center for Genomic Medicine and Endocrine Division at MGH and Broad Institute and part of the greater Boston life-science community including MIT and Harvard. The workplace culture is diverse, dynamic, progressive, and supports a healthy work-life balance. To enable this mission, we strive to support diversity, intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and integrity.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e., pipetting, cell and
tissue culture, etc.).
*Understands molarity, prepares lab reagents, and get familiar with operating of instruments, and
equipment.
*Maintains and order supplies.
*Sets up and prepares routine experiments as directed.
*Perform bench level experiments isolation involving cell culture, molecular biology, and
biochemistry with minimal supervision.
*Generate and contribute to current laboratory SOPs to ensure data reproducibility.
*Document, compile, and assist with analyzing and interpreting experimental data.
*Attend and participate in lab and project meetings, including preparing reports, slide decks and
presenting progress.
*Interact and communicate with team members and collaborators.
*Contribute toward publication of scholarly reports.
*Consult colleagues or scientific literature, as needed, to develop professional expertise.
*Comply with all safety, biohazard, and other institutional rules.

room organization).
*Other tasks as required.
Qualifications
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
