About the Job:
We have an interest in utilizing computer algorithms to model gene behavior in patient tumors. This is purposed towards identifying cancer associated mechanisms, precision therapies or biomarkers.

The researcher will work with Dr. Justin Hwang and his current team to conduct informatics driven research. The individual will be assigned dedicated research projects in which the individual will be responsible in progressing based on the following:
Responsibilities:
50% Design and perform bioinformatics and database management approaches.
-Design overarching experimental plans using bioinformatics methods.
-Development or implement computer code to analyze clinical gene
expression data with specified inputs and outputs.
-Identify and troubleshoot issues to complete proposed analyses.

30% Interpret and organization of projects
-Document and organize source data, code, and results.
-Interpret results from analysis and articulate these findings to colleagues.
-Prepare figures for presentations/manuscripts and maintain expertise in the relevant research.
-Communicate and meet with Dr. Justin Hwang and project manager Hannah Bergom.
10% Assist in preparing manuscripts, progress reports, abstracts.
10% Present data at lab meetings.

The individual will conduct data analysis and build computational approaches based in tumor models that represent cancer patients.
This is a key area in which Dr. Justin Hwang' research program. We have ongoing and recently awarded funds and publications supporting additional pre-clinical and informatics analyses that may lead to new clinical trials for a subset of prostate cancer patients with limited treatment options. Dr. Hwang's lab seeks to develop his specialty in informatics and database organization through the hired individual. There are currently several pending projects and data sets in which the individuals will immediately be working on.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
*BA/BS and 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal 6 years
*Has previously analyzed and worked with large scale genomic datasets in projects and performed statistical analysis via regression models, or machine learning models
*Can develop, read and execute code in R or Python script.
*Knowledge of bioinformatics in research, with a demonstrated
ability to solve complex problems using its methods
*Is willing to learn and develop long term projects by optimizing code for the analysis of biological features observed in cancer cells
*Will take exceptional records to ensure codes are reproducible by others

Preferred Qualifications:
-Preferred experience working on human genomic or transcriptomic
projects in cancer and working with analytical tools for studying human DNA and RNA
-Has a degree in a health science or related field
-Has published on related projects
-Has developed code in the past
