Researcher 5 - Dahlberg Research (Part-time)
Twin Cities, Minnesota
Employer: University of Minnesota
Industry: Finance
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Part-Time
JOB DUTIES:
25% Job duties include developing ac susceptibility system. This entails winding coils, on the order of a thousand turns of 50ga copper wire, for a mutual inductance system. Given how fine the wire is, often multiple coils must be wound to be successful. Pairs of coils, one with and one without a spin glass sample, will be in a closed cycle refrigerator with a third coil wound on the outside of them. The outer coils will drive the inner coils and the difference in voltage will be measured (it is a measure of the susceptibility of the sample). The above must be constructed in a manner to fit in the refrigerator.
50% Upon completion of the susceptibility system, the frequency dependence of the susceptibility of a number of spin glass samples we have currently will be measured as a function of temperature and magnetic concentration. These measurements will require the development of measurements software using LabView or Python to control the experiments and record the data.
20% The data will be analyzed using software to be developed. The writing of scientific publications to report the results will be done and possibly the presentation of the results at conferences.
5% General maintenance of the laboratory and repair of equipment will be done.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree with 1 or more years of research training
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
