The role you'll contribute:

The Transport Respiratory Therapist (RT) is an experienced and advanced practitioner responsible for the rapid and safe transport of critically ill patients. S/he will function as a collaborative member of the AdventHealth transport team working jointly with the team in making patient care decisions.

Completes and documents patient assessments, treatments, medications and reactions to treatments and medications per department protocols and AdventHealth policy. Adheres to safety requirements while transporting patients in an around the ambulance. Maintains thorough and accurate information in the Right CAD system for department statistics. Completes the QA process on chart reviews for patient safety and improved outcomes. Works jointly with the Crew, Supervisor and Communication Specialist to ensure timely acceptance of patient transfer and placement through the Emergency Transfer Center. Communicates patient updates to physicians with appropriate triage of urgency. Initiates the hospital and physician chain of command when appropriate or if there are EMTALA concerns. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • Completes and documents patient assessments, provides interventions with accurate administration and calculation of medications and the responses per department protocols and AdventHealth Policy. Utilizes specific knowledge in emergency care of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Adheres to safety requirements and applies caution, remaining alert to hazards at all times while transporting patients in and around the ambulance. Utilizes proficiency with radio communications and emergency egress procedures.
  • Assists with clinical instruction, skills checkoffs and precepting. Completes and performs competency check offs and monitors when needed.
  • Communicates patient updates to physicians and receiving units through dispatch for medical control
  • Completes timely documentation of patient demographics, the transfer process and flight times in the Right CAD system for accuracy of department statistics
  • Completes the department processes of shift briefings and QA of charts for patient safety and improved outcomes
  • Follows templates for service line specifics and algorithms of acceptance and denials of patient transfers/transports into and throughout the AdventHealth system. Initiates the hospital and physician chain of command when appropriate if there are EMTALA concerns
  • Proficiency in understanding and use of systems


Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Associates degree from an accredited respiratory therapy or cardiopulmonary science program
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in respiratory critical care
  • Five years of patient care

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
  • Current valid State of Florida License as a credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • BLS
  • ACLS or ACLS - EP
  • PALS
  • NRP

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Advanced Airway skills with proficiency in placing supra-glottic airway devices and endotracheal intubation
  • Advanced knowledge of hemodynamics, volume resuscitation and a coordinated approach with Transport RN in resuscitating patient
  • Adept at initiating/maintaining complex therapeutic interventions such as non-conventional advanced modes of ventilation
  • Enhanced critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate changes in patient condition and respond rapidly and appropriately
  • Expertise in patient assessment, evaluation and revision of treatment plans through use of AHEMS protocols
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
  • Ground and air transport knowledge
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical circulatory assist devices such as extra-corporeal membranous oxygenation (CardioHelp device)
  • Ventricular Assist Device knowledge (Impella, LVAD, RVAD, BiVAD)


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Bachelor's in health-related field
  • OB and Pediatric experience
  • Air Medical Core Curriculum

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
  • ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialty)
  • AARC (American Association of Respiratory Care)
