Project/Unit Description
The Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory's (SEAL) Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) is looking for scientists and engineers with interest and experience in signal processing and algorithm development for radar applications. The ISR Division's projects focus on advanced signal processing, adaptive sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, machine learning, and modeling and simulation for applications that include airborne radar, electronic warfare, and undersea systems. The division supports work across the Intelligence Community (IC) and the Department of Defense (DoD), including the Air Force, Navy, and Office of the Secretary of Defense. Key products include physics-based modeling and simulation tools, system analyses, sensor signal processing algorithms, and real-time prototypes. The ideal candidate will be an experienced researcher with desire to apply engineering, physics, and mathematics to radar ISR problems of interest to the DoD & IC.
Job Purpose
RF/Radar Systems Engineers work with a team to perform advanced system and algorithm development using established systems engineering approaches. Based on detailed trade studies and requirements analyses, radar systems engineers develop solutions to satisfy system requirements and perform functions related to all aspects of radar system design. These functions include the development of the complete architectural design of radar systems, investigation and development of new algorithms to advance key sensor capabilities by leveraging signal processing techniques and novel waveform development, development of detailed simulations of algorithms and systems for design verification or to facilitate operational software development, the design of sensor modes that maximize sensor performance, the collection and analysis of data from laboratory or flight tests, and formal verification that the final design solution meet all system requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop requirements and direct others to perform design and theory research and lab testing tasks as task lead.
- Mentor others in developing methods and expertise in broad areas of design, theory, and testing as task lead.
- Document work of design, theory, and test in written and presentation form as team lead. Coordinate documentation inputs from team.
- Primary lead on the development of whitepapers and proposals in research areas of expertise.
- Primary lead on sponsors and potential sponsors engagement.
- Primary author of entire technical reports/presentations of projects, journal articles, and conference presentations.
Additional Responsibilities
- The ideal candidate will be interested in working in technical areas that include detection theory, estimation theory, RF systems analysis, adaptive array processing, and digital beamforming.
- The ideal candidate will be expected to participate in the execution of multiple simultaneous projects, including attending technical meetings, completing assigned technical tasks, collaborating with colleagues, and presenting their research to the technical team and technical sponsors.
- Tasking will be assigned to leverage the existing skills of the candidate, to include physics-based modeling, application of advanced mathematical techniques for data processing, digital signal processing, image processing, signals analysis, radar system modeling, and radar performance prediction.
- The ideal candidate will be expected to develop relationships with current and potential customers, and contribute to whitepapers and proposals.
- As their career evolves, candidates will be expected to lead proposals for new business, mentor junior staff, and lead projects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December, 2024.
- Experience with radar applications, signal processing, or sensor algorithm development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as evidenced by conference presentations or papers.
- Experience working classified DoD or DoE projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI Clearance.
- Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar related field.
- 3+ years of experience programming in Matlab.
- 3+ years research experience.
- Experience leading research and development teams.
- Demonstrated success at securing research funding.
