Job Summary:
A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient.

Education:
Required:
Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.

Preferred:
Graduate of an Accredited four year Nursing Program (BSN)

Experience:
Required:
One year medical/surgical acute care experience

Preferred:
Previous emergency, critical care nursing or paramedic experience.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN licensure or Multi-State Nursing Compact Licensure. BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward. ACLS required within 6 months and maintain ongoing thereafter. PALS required within 6 months and maintain ongoing thereafter. TNCC or comparable education within 1 year and maintain ongoing thereafter.
De-escalation training/certification (example: CPI) within 6 months and maintain ongoing thereafter. NIHSS required prior to completion of departmental orientation and maintain ongoing thereafter.

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a North Carolina license. However, the North Carolina nursing license will be a single state license for North Carolina Residents or non-compact state residents. North Carolina licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-North Carolina residents.

Preferred: MICN and CEN certification encouraged after two years of employment.

Department Position Summary:
The RN provides direct and indirect care in the emergency care setting that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. Triages patients safely, rapidly and accurately. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. The RN communicates with physicians about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies and is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Responsible for meeting the established Nursing Standards of Practice for assigned patients, for managing supplies, medications and equipment in the department, and for promoting teamwork within and with other departments.
