Job Summary:
Responsible for analyzing and coding outpatient records, including but not limited to, radiology, laboratory, reoccurring Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Same Day Care, emergency room, cardiopulmonary and cardiac rehab. Assigns accurate ICD-10-CM codes, and when applicable, CPT/HCPCS codes. Diagnoses and procedures are sequenced according to coding conventions and guidelines. Abstracts records at the time of coding into computer system per CPSI and the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set requirements. Keeps current on coding updates. Maintain coding productivity log.

Position may also be assigned coding functions for outpatient surgery and observation accounts.

Position must be flexible to changing situations. Requires initiative and high level organizational skills and decision making skills. There is occasional exposure to medical information dealing with trauma, grief, and death. Some assignments may require working weekends, nights, and/or occasional overtime.

Required:
Knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Skilled in performing review of medical record documentation to assign required diagnosis and procedure codes. Prior knowledge of experience with electronic medical records and technology.

Preferred:
Working experience with 3M encoder. Understanding of use of copier, fax and other types of office equipment.

Licensure: Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Professional Coder, RHIA, or RHIT preferred, or equivalent experience
