Job Overview - Amazon Robotics (AR) Mechanical Hardware Development Engineer is a technical project leader who designs and delivers complex integrated robotic hardware solutions that have broad influence on the Amazon business and customers. You will develop innovative hardware designs for our emerging robotic systems and improve existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate has experience designing, developing and delivering robotic systems; enjoys collaborative and analytical problem solving; and possesses practical knowledge of robotic design, fabrication, assembly and rapid prototyping.

Key job responsibilities

Mechanical Engineer (L5) in the Robotics Work cell Hardware Design is responsible for:

• \tWorking with an interdisciplinary team, following the Product Development Process, to execute robotic work cell product designs from concept to production including developing specifications, designing, prototyping, testing, and validation.

• \tDesigning and adapting holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements.

• \tDesigning and integrating industrial automation and motion control systems into functional work cells.

• \tPerforming static and dynamic mechanical systems analysis using FEA as well as traditional hand calculations.

• \tValidating concepts through engineering models and prototypes.

• \tCreating design of experiments and leading cross-functional experiments.

• \tCreating comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, requirements, functional specifications, and design validation plans/reports, ensuring information is readily available for future iterations and compliance.

• \tReleasing products following defined ECO process.

• \tCollaborating with software engineers to understand design tradeoffs across hardware/ software for seamless integration.

• \tSpecifying industrial automation components such as motors, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, and safety systems.

• \tWorking collaboratively with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors for a smooth product launch and sustainment.

• \tExhibiting role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership.

A day in the life

Your day to day responsibilities will include interfacing with our internal and external customers to understand project requirements and facilitate Robotic system development. You will be responsible for solving challenges that are part of designing state-of-the- art robotic work cells. You will be working in an environment where time is considered the most precious commodity. You will collaborate across the development teams to design and deliver the work cells. You will work directly with hardware engineers, software engineering, project management, quality, and safety teams to develop and manufacture your product at scale.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience

- Experience with prototyping and implementation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools

- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
