The NM State Land Office has a Non-Emergency Telework Policy, which allows eligible employees to telework up to twenty-four (24) hours a week consistent with the agency's business needs.

Why does the job exist?

The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. This position will be in the Royalty Management Division. Due to the needs of the Royalty Management Division, which is responsible for the Compliance Bureau and the continued growth in the oil and gas industry, this position must have extensive client contact, perform research and analysis into Production Unit Numbers (PUN), and lease matters utilizing internal and web applications. This position will review royalty calculations to ensure compliance with NM statutes and regulations, agency rules and policies, and court decision. The position also provides quality customer service to all trust stakeholders.

How does it get done?

This is a core position within the Compliance Bureau and is responsible for performing procedures to resolve royalty reporting issues with remitters that result in outstanding notices, address all outstanding accounts, determine if company refund requests are valid and decide the form of reimbursement, and will calculate and send advance payment notices and assure credits are managed and assessments are collected.

Who are the customers?

Internal: Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division; Administrative Services; Commercial Division; Legal Division; Surface Resources Division; and executive State Land Office management officials (Office of the Commissioner).

External: New Mexico public schools, universities and hospitals; individuals; general public; lessees (agricultural, oil and gas companies, commercial, rights-of-ways); natural resource authorization users; program enrollees; hunters; other stakeholders; government entities (state, federal, city, county, tribal).

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:
- Related work experience in accounting, auditing, collections or finance (preferably related to Oil and Gas royalty reporting).
- Working knowledge with computer software applications (Microsoft Office).
- Experience reviewing accounting systems and internal controls.

Minimum Qualification

Six (6) years of experience in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Collections, Finance, and/or Budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
