An exciting employment opportunity is available for an experienced safety and security officer. The opportunity is located at New College Institutes in Martinsville, Virginia.

Job Summary/Objectives: The wage part-time Safety and Security Officer position maintains security of New College Institute facilities, assists staff, students, and visitors. The Safety and Security Officer will perform daily security patrols; investigate and prepare reports on all incidents (injuries, fire alarms, complaints); monitor surveillance equipment; properly inspect entrances and access points; provide exemplary customer service as a representative of New College Institute; and enforce all regulations and policies of NCI. This position is considered part-time with no benefits and not to exceed an average of 29 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience demonstrating the ability to protect and maintain a safe environment for a business organization.
• Experience demonstrating the ability to relate and interact with diverse populations.
• Ability to make quick judgement calls, resolve conflicts and solve problems in various situations.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Must possess or maintain a security certification provided by the Department of Criminal Justice Services or be able to secure certification within 12 months of post hire date.

Additional Considerations

Considerable experience providing security services for a business organization or for a campus environment. CPR & First-Aid Certification desirable.

Special Requirements: Applicants must be 18 years or older and must be able to pass a drug and criminal history check, if required. Must be available to work evenings and weekends from Monday thru Saturday. Must possess the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., for short periods, bend, stoop, and stand or walk for extended periods of time and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
