The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) serves as the catalyst for enhancing the quality of the undergraduate student experience while promoting on-time graduation for all undergraduate students at IU Indianapolis. 3 units report up to the DUE: University College, Honors College and the Institute for Engaged Learning.

The Office of Communications and Digital Strategy serves as the central communications team for the Division of Undergraduate Education, providing marketing and communication leadership, strategy, services, and education to division stakeholders.

Job Summary

As part of the newly created Office of Scholar Development, this position will develop and coordinate programming and support for students with potential to apply for prestigious external scholarships. This position will work with campus partners in identifying eligible students, communicating with selected students, coordinating and conducting sessions with selected students, monitoring student program participation, and planning large-scale program events. Position will serve as a mentor and coach to identified students.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Cultivates applicants for nationally competitive scholarship opportunities through outreach programming in partnership with academic schools, departments, and offices.
  • Recruits and advises/mentors students applying for nationally competitive opportunities.
  • Identifies existing experiences on campus and cultivate relationships between faculty and prospective students to place students in appropriate experiences to meet scholarship goals.
  • Collaborates with faculty and campus partners to plan, design, and implement recurring workshops and events to promote scholar development, recruit applicants for nationally competitive opportunities, and celebrate student success.
  • Hosts informational workshops and community-building efforts for students to raise awareness of competitive scholarships and opportunities.
  • Works with faculty and staff to establish pipelines to identify, recruit, and support the scholar development of high potential students throughout their undergraduate careers.
  • Coordinates campus evaluation committees consisting of faculty and staff in relevant disciplines.
  • Supports student applications from first drafts to final submissions, helping them identify their academic and career goals, as well as their motivations, and communicate those ideas in essay format.
  • Collects, tracks, and revises students' application materials, regularly offering feedback for scholar development.
  • Tracks and reports number of 1:1 and group consultations, applications submitted, and scholarships awarded.
  • Maintains information systems for various reporting audiences.
  • Develops informational literature for students, faculty, and staff to promote the mission of the office.
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at enhancing and reinforcing the academic engagement and experiential learning capacity of the student experience. Projects programming outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
  • Interfaces directly with students, attending student programming events and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student programming initiatives and objectives.
  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student programming goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student programs against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
  • Serves on committees and performs student programming research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
  • Plans and coordinates communications for student programming initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
  • May provide guidance to other Student Programming Specialists.
  • Makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, public affairs, counseling, business, or related field
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
