Position Summary:

To address rapidly changing program needs across several ongoing research projects within the Division of Applied Regulatory Science (DARS), we require scientists with experience across several different scientific disciplines including bioanalysis, PK/PD, toxicology, immunology, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, mathematical modeling, and structure activity relationships to assist with these projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Independently perform or direct experiments in accordance with established protocols in the laboratory and/or the animal facility evaluating and assuring experimental progress, data validity; identifies unexpected results and provides potential causes and solutions and discusses experimental findings with stakeholders at all levels
  • Participate in planning and developing of laboratory and animal experiments and protocols, recommends methods and develops and/or modifies methods and procedures for conducting projects
  • Determines time and resources required to execute projects and establishes plans and schedules
  • Isolation and culture of cells from human tissues and mice
  • Actively participates in animal research procedures with severely immune compromised mice including injections, bleeding, surgery, and necropsy
  • Performs common laboratory research techniques and assays including ELISA, ELISpot, multi-parameter flow cytometry and PCR
  • Guides or directs other laboratory and/or animal research associates in experimental procedures and processes
  • Collect, organize, and record experimental data in an appropriate format to share and publish; record details for protocols, methods, and procedures of each experiment sufficient to allow reproduction; summarize data and describe deviation from protocol or unexpected findings encountered during experimentation
  • Analyze data applying standard methods; prepare data in tabular, graphic, and narrative formats as needed; note inconsistencies in data and provide hypothesis for inconsistencies if possible; interpret findings and summarize conclusions; prepare data for publication and discuss data interpretation with contract clients including laboratory research personnel and laboratory and animal program senior management
  • Keep abreast of relevant literature, extracts pertinent details and incorporates appropriate concepts and details into research activities and experiments; determines deficiencies and identifies problems in methodology, protocol, or design and takes corrective action


Minimum Requirements:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in veterinary science, laboratory science, biology, biomedical sciences or related discipline and 10+ (M.S. degree) or 5+ (Ph.D. degree) years of laboratory experience in academia or industry developing animal models and performing animal and laboratory technical procedures including surgery, tissue processing, flow cytometry, and immunoassays as well as other common laboratory procedures.
  • A strong background and experience in animal and laboratory research techniques
  • 5 to 10+ years of work experience in research labs in academia or industry
  • Experience with standard immunologic techniques including aseptic tissue processing, cell culture, ELISA, and cell-based assays is required.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry including operation of a variety of flow cytometry systems, preferably Cytek Aurora and Stratedigm flow cytometry systems.
  • Previous mouse handling experience is required; experience with immune-compromised mouse strains is preferred.
  • Experience managing in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Strong publication record including first author manuscripts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as this candidate will be expected to work productively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze, interpret and present study data coupled with an aptitude for learning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
