The Surgical Technician is primarily responsible for scrubbing on surgical procedures in all specialties performed in the area of Surgical Services. Functions as a member of the surgical team. Responsible for setting up assigned cases, maintaining a sterile field, counting appropriate items with circulating nurse used during surgical cases. This position requires an understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and sterilization. Performs a variety of tasks such as care of instruments, supplies, sutures, needles and basic equipment, as well as stocking, cleaning, inventory, etc. The surgical technician must know policies and procedures pertaining to duties and be able to fulfill verbal and written instructions. • High school graduate or equivalent required. Hospital experience preferred in area of Surgical Services, not required. Certification preferred, not mandatory. Completion of a certified technician program or acceptable on the job training program. Possesses interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate appropriately, verbal or written. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months in position.
