Job Goal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, and maintains security equipment and hardware onsite at assigned school district locations, including but not limited to closed circuit television, cameras, radios, motion/smoke detectors, alarm systems, servers, control panels, etc., to ensure optimum availability of all systems and compliance with appropriate codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance and updates as specified by hardware manufacturers and installation recommendations; installs and removes programs as necessary for proper operation of computer systems.
  • Maintains the instructional materials asset management system for issuing laptops, textbooks, and other items, tracking distribution, and generating reports; monitors user access and security; and monitors system on an ongoing basis in order to ensure data integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable policies and standards.
  • Identifies and evaluates hardware and equipment malfunctions; troubleshoots and/or performs appropriate repairs to equipment to restore proper operation.
  • Utilizes the school district's online maintenance work order management system to enter and update data necessary to fulfill job functions and complete projects within the established time frame.
  • Recommends replacement of equipment as necessary to take the place of outdated or irreparable hardware and/or systems and orders replacement parts and equipment as approved.
  • Monitors and adheres to established procedures for security systems and equipment in assigned school district locations; communicates and trains district security personnel, administrators, and others on proper usage as appropriate.
  • Works with supervisor, school principals, district administrators, and other HCS staff to assist in the control and resolution of security issues; provides assistance as requested to appropriate district staff and law enforcement in the investigation of incidents.
  • Serves as primary point of contact to provide technical and troubleshooting support to district staff in regards to security system usage, functions, and capabilities and responds to a wide variety of inquiries and concerns for the purpose of resolving support issues and providing information as needed.
  • Collaborates with appropriate HCS staff and outside service providers in the planning and implementation of district construction projects in relation to the set-up of security systems, hardware, and equipment.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, manufacturer specifications, etc.; maintains required written and electronic records to appropriately document activities; and prepares reports for conveying information on cost-effective operations of work completed and materials used.
  • Maintains research-based knowledge in current trends and best practices within security system technology; reviews current developments, literature, and technical sources of information; utilizes knowledge to ensure ongoing improvements are implemented within the school district; and recommends opportunities for inclusion in district continuous improvement plans.
  • Assists in the proper documentation for individual school and district-wide inventory of instructional technology assets, including laptops, in coordination with the Networked Learning department.
  • Works on-call for after-hour emergencies; requires varying work hours and scheduled days.
  • Travels to HCS facilities to perform job-related duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.


Qualifications

A high school diploma and five (5) years of experience with microwave radios, electronics, and telecommunications, including two (2) years of experience in tower climbing. Must have a valid Alabama driver's license and the ability to work varying work hours and days.

Physical Requirements

Requires exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly.

Terms of Employment

Twelve month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
