Job Summary

Serve as a senior technical problem solver working with internal clients and business analysts in defining their data access requirements, architecting these requirements and building and implementing the software solution in an environment of assigned function (i.e. People Soft Finance, Student Administration, Human Resources, or Special Projects). Incumbent is also equipped to act as technical lead on special group projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Evaluate user requests for new or modified programs, to determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system and computer capabilities.

Collaborate with end user and business analyst to identify current data access requirements and clarify software objectives.

Formulate plan-outlining steps required to develop or alter program, using structured analysis and design to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.

Architect, build and implement end-user data access requirements.

Develop/enhance automated processes and applications using appropriate tools.

Write documentation including flowcharts and diagrams to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections.

Troubleshoot code and data errors and run data traces to diagnose and pinpoint problems and rewrites program to correct errors.

Monitor performance of program, upgrade system and correct errors to maintain system after implementation.

Apply application updates and fixes. Ensure production system is kept current.

Work closely with other programmer analysts in resolution of work problems.

Prepare time and cost estimates for completing programming tasks and other work projects.

Write interfaces between People Soft and other systems.

Provide technical assistance to end-users and business analysts.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required
  • 8 years directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of required degree
  • 5 years combined experience programming and developing applications in a web-based environment, relational database management systems, web development systems, and implementing automated information systems and leading projects from a technical perspective
  • Experience implementing/supporting self-service within an automated information system and/or higher education institution or a community college preferred

Working Conditions

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
