The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties seeks a personable and experienced Senior Aquatics Director to join our team in Gig Harbor, WA.

The Y’s thriving Aquatics Programs focus on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and developing swimmers of all abilities. The Tom Taylor Family YMCA Aquatics Department provides our community with swimming lessons, Splash n’ play aquatics clinics, water exercise classes and is home to the Tom Taylor Seals Swimming Team.

The Senior Aquatics Director is responsible for hands-on leadership, staff supervision and development, program development, swimming facility operations, and quality member service are the primary functions of this position. Responsibilities include:

Qualifications

  • Five years of aquatics experience as a lifeguard, swim instructor, water exercise, and/or coaching experience is highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent years of experience that includes managing and developing staff, program development, budget management etc.
  • Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Ability to work effectively with people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, to build rapport, and maintain positive relations with members and staff
  • Must possess effective interpersonal verbal, and written skills to educate participants, parents, and members on the YMCA Aquatics programs
  • Ability to lead by example and foster an environment of respect and care
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills
  • Must have/obtain valid Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications


Essential Functions

  • Ensure day-to-day aquatics operations run smoothly and meet the needs of our members and community.
  • Provide excellent service and programs to members, participants, and staff
  • Recruit and hire, develop and supervise staff and volunteers to ensure they are meeting the values and mission of the YMCA as well as regulatory compliance requirements
  • Maintains knowledge and ensures all YMCA, state, county and Aquatic policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures are being adhered to
  • Ensure all staff are certified, trained, and deliver quality programs that meet member needs and YMCA standards
  • Act as a primary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness and report injuries, completing required forms
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and members
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
