Title:Senior Associate Dean of Students & Director of Operations and Administration

Position Purpose:

The Senior Associate Dean of Students & Director of Operations and Administration serves as a strategic partner to the Dean of Students on a wide variety projects and initiatives that span across Student Affairs and the college. This position is responsible for Student Affairs strategic initiatives, typically focused on operations, administration, and finance. This professional comes to their work with a student-centered lens with the mission and focus of improving operations within the department that support equitable processes and high impact outcomes.

The Senior Associate Dean oversees Campus Safety, Access Control, Student Affairs Technology and Transportation. The Senior Associate Dean provides direct supervision and mentorship to the Director of Campus Safety, Manager of Access Control, Assistant Manager of Access Control, Project Manager for Access Control, the Information Technology Program Manager as well as general leadership to a staff of 30. This position reports to the Dean of Students.

Job Duties:

Operation, Administration, and Strategic Initiatives:
  • Works directly with the Dean of Students using gap analysis and benchmarking to identify needs, define strategic Student
    Affairs division priorities that align with institutional goals and develop objectives to meet those needs.
  • Prepares executive presentations, documentation, reports and communications that inform and address needs related to
    operations, policies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepares and manages the divisional budget and works with the Dean of Students to create mission- driven budget priorities
    each fiscal year. Identified areas for resource conservation and opportunities within the budget.
  • Maintains a strong partnership with Human Resources collaborating closely on organizational design and effectiveness through employee recruitment, retention, performance management, and employee relations and engagement.

Campus Safety:
  • Sets the mission and values of Campus Safety in alignment with the educational mission of the college.
  • In partnership with the Director of Campus Safety, develops, builds, and maintains a campus safety model to build community engagement, trust, and relationships between Campus Safety and the campus community.
  • Develops an inclusive process to regularly review and update all
  • Campus Safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensures departmental accreditation and other compliance requirements are met.
  • Ensures effective planning and implementation of the transportation program, ensuring it aligns with institutional priorities and needs.
  • Ensure all interdepartmental charges and external charges are transferred and issued to student bills in the areas of Access Control and Campus Safety

Access Control:
  • Ensures effective planning and implementation of access control, leading infrastructure and process improvement initiatives to build redundancy to reduce operational risks.
  • Leads the Access Control Project team and all associated access, key and camera priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Systems Development & Integration, the Project Manager for Access Control, and the Manager for Access Control to move to a more secure ID Card System.
  • Collaborates with the Lock Shop and Carpentry Manager to executing a systemic plan for keys and keyways on campus.
  • Work with the Project Manager for Access Control to apply for federal/state grants to support Campus Safety and Security.
  • Work with the Project Manager for Access Control to ensure the implementation of the key audit plan.

Information Technology and Operations:
  • Oversees the utilization and implementation of numerous Student Affairs specific software solutions.
  • Identifies gaps in Student Affairs operations where technology can improve the user experience, create more efficiency,
    and/or support assessment-related efforts.
  • Creates a strategic plan that develops and assesses proactive, inclusive, forward-thinking, and innovative technology solutions addressing the campus-wide need to support student success and
    well-being.
  • Collaborate with primary users of technology across the division and the IT Program Manager to most effectively implement Student Affairs technology to support faculty, staff, and students.


Student Affairs:
  • Participates in national and regional professional development opportunities to ensure the implementation and assessment
    of best practices related to student life.
  • Serves as a Student Support Advisor and in the Student Affairs "on-call" rotation, providing timely response and support for student emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Master's degree in related field (i.e. Education, Business, Public Administration), or a related field required.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in higher education.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Supervision of a department preferred.

Experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and assessing large-scale, complex, institution-wide programs.
  • Experience supervising professional staff members.
  • Experience with systems design.
  • Experience with budgeting.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing strong partnership and direction for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to design effective tools for communicating with multiple constituencies, such as students, faculty, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to support people from underrepresented populations and identities.
  • Familiarity with the academic environment and higher education, preferably the liberal arts.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency or ability to quickly learn electronic medical record system, data management systems and basic computer applications.
  • Supervisory experience desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train or bus) domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work early mornings, weekends, evenings and other non-traditional schedules.
