Summary

The Senior Business Strategy and Development Associate supports quality improvement for Research Mission Support business operations through process development or improvement, project management, change management, report development and analysis, and oversight support.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area after an onboarding and training period.

Job Duties

Strategy Support - 40%
  • Collaborates with the office of the Senior Vice President and Dean of Research to develop and implement intricate strategies for enhancing quality across the Research Mission business operations. Collaborates with leadership and stakeholders on problem-solving around mission performance and business processes.
  • Participates in developing and implementing subordinate tasks for key initiatives tied to the research mission's five strategic pillars and subordinate goals. Collaborates with the Lead, Executive Support routinely on progress and other project-related tasks.
  • Coordinates process development and improvement projects as directed by the Research Mission Support Administrator.
  • Responsible for day-to-day project management and change management for assigned business operations projects in conjunction with and to support business operations leaders. Contributes to mission business operations projects, as required.
  • Collaborate with RSS IT and ORIT team and other stakeholders in the development of data tools used to track and measure quality improvement KPIs. Responsible for coordinating the development of tools to track and review business operations metrics.


Data Support - 40%
  • Supports efforts for identifying, monitoring, and assessing Mission business operations key performance indicators (KPIs) to develop quality improvement initiatives that positively impact the Research Missions' business performance.
  • Responsible for producing and supporting the analysis of ad hoc reports, dashboards, and information using data regarding mission business operations.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, securing, and updating the mission HR dashboard in Power BI and its supporting datasets and files.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, securing, and updating the mission finance dashboard in Power BI and its supporting datasets and files.


Oversight Support - 20%
  • Ensures compliance with all federal laws, state laws, and Baylor College of Medicine policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for monitoring and briefing the progress of mission business operations compliance events, e.g., annual compliance training, attestations, and other events/trainings as required.
  • Responsible for monitoring and communicating PEPT requirements to the business operations team to action.
  • Responsible for monitoring business operations metrics and reports in conjunction with and to support business operations leaders.
  • Calls attention to mission division business operations peculiarities and follow up with business teams to confirm resolution. May assist business teams in identifying the challenge and resolution and will personally handle researching mission cross-division financial oddities and coordinating with business teams to resolve.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree and two years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Six years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in a research and/or academic environment.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in Power BI.
  • Process improvement and project management training and/or experience.
  • Change management experience is a plus.
