Description: Job Summary:

This position is responsible for: overseeing litigation for portfolios of high reputational and economic significance and implementing strategies for cost control and mitigation; establishing arguments in preparation of cases; representing KP during legal proceedings, mediation, and negotiation of settlements; providing strategic legal advice and working on highly complex risk initiatives, remediation, and/or compliance projects; leading training and education of Human Resources (HR) Internal professionals; working with the business to ensure understanding and approval of key decision points; monitoring adherence to legal obligations and settlement agreements; and coordinating communication with appropriate individuals and agencies.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs and analyzes legal research by: leveraging expert and highly technical knowledge to gather, interpret, and review legal documents (e.g., contracts, memoranda, and policies); providing significant strategic guidance to senior leadership (e.g., Executive level and above) on key legal issues within their subject matter expertise and reviewing the analyses of judicial decisions as well as statutory/regulatory authority including but not limited to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, accreditations standards, and/or other applicable guidance, managing highly complex research issues; and analyzing and addressing all levels of complex patterns and trends impacting legal questions or issues and communicating legal research findings, and legal analysis to business stakeholders on all levels of complex concerns and/or novel legal questions or issues.
  • Assesses legal risk and/or provides legal guidance by: applying expert knowledge of legal principles, business risks, regulatory landscape, and compliance considerations that have a highly critical impact on the organization; implementing innovative and future-oriented solutions that mitigate legal risks, drive business strategy, and facilitate cost efficiencies; providing legal advice, risk assessments and/or case recommendations to executive business leadership; consulting, managing, and overseeing outside counsel on legal matters; and may oversee junior-level attorneys and other legal professionals.
  • Participates in the creation and review of legal documents by: preparing, drafting, creating, and reviewing training materials, highly complex and nuanced written legal advice, contracts, policies, and procedures, and other documents; and overseeing work product of others and providing highly technical and expert actionable guidance to clients and other legal professionals (e.g., legal counsel, paralegals, and legal assistants).
  • Contributes to legal planning and strategy by: identifying and implementing significant strategic solutions to unique issues, and driving the resolution of all levels of complex legal issues as needed; and collaborating and advising others to create product, network, business, and/or clinical strategies as well as manage, lead, and guide responses to regulatory actions (e.g., audits, and enforcement actions).Advise complex organizations within KP enterprise-wide, across multiple legal business entities.
Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years of legal experience as an attorney.

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in employment litigation (discovery, law and motion, experts, pre-trial, trial/arbitration).

Education

  • Bachelors degree. Juris Doctorate degree required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • State Bar License (California)

Additional Requirements:

  • Solid work ethic, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), and sharp analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience working on highly complex remediation and or compliance projects.

  • Two (2) years of experience advising or representing clients on wage and hour matters.

  • Two (2) years of experience advising or representing clients on Equal Pay, including the California Equal Pay Act.

  • Two (2) years of experience managing class actions.


******This position has a target base salary of $ 234,000 to $292,500 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.

****** Can Work Remote while residing in one of these areas - California; Atlanta, GA; Portland, OR; Rockville, MD, Washington D.C. and Washington Markets.
