Data drives innovation and this senior role is behind the wheel of our Data Engineering group. This foundational role designs and builds the paths to fine-tune Audible's operations and outpace our competitors. Our Data Engineering group owns the datasets and platforms that not only enable our systems but also our people, to uncover new insights. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will...

- Lead the development of systems and datasets, applying best practices and diverse knowledge in our inclusive data engineering ecosystem

- Peer review and mentor junior team members, fostering their growth and development

- Analyze source systems, define data sources and transformation requirements, and design appropriate data models while documenting specifications

- Utilize broad technology expertise to build systems aligned with business needs in the Data Engineering ecosystem

- Implement systems and datasets using software engineering best practices, data management fundamentals, and operational excellence principles

- Demonstrate dedication to quality and productivity through efficient development techniques and adherence to standards

- Communicate effectively with teams and stakeholders, escalating and resolving technical and managerial issues

- Conduct peer reviews and actively mentor team members, enhancing their skills, system knowledge, and productivity

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field

- Proficiency in functional programming languages (e.g. Python) as well as declarative programming languages (e.g. SQL, SPARQL)

- 2+ years of hands on experience in working on data-centric systems using MPP Database technologies and Hadoop, Spark, Kafka or AWS equivalents

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Understanding of processing and modeling large, complex data sets for Analytical use cases with Database technologies such as AWS Redshift, Teradata or equivalent

- Ability to communicate effectively and work independently with little supervision to deliver on time quality products

- Willingness to learn, be open minded to new ideas and different opinions yet knowing when to stop, analyze, and reach a decision

- Familiarity with AWS cloud technologies such as Elastic Map Reduce (EMR), Kinesis, Athena

- Familiarity with BI and Visualization platforms such as MicroStrategy and AWS Quicksight

- Experience with React, HTTP/2, Serverless, Microservices, and cross-platform development

- Prior use of AWS technologies at scale in a production environment

- Working knowledge of Machine Learning techniques

- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership

- Familiar with Unix/Linux and know how to write optimized, low-latency code

- Passion for data, coding, modeling, research design and cutting-edges algorithms

- 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new systems
