Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide design and system engineering for advanced micro reactors in the Reactor Project Engineering Department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located onsite at our Materials and Fuels Complex.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC works jointly with the National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) to bring advanced micro reactors to INL.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply engineering knowledge, practice, and techniques to provide oversight of advanced micro reactor development. This requires knowledge in the design of multiple types of equipment including reactor instrumentation and controls, MCCs, motors, motor controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Mentor junior staff and assists the department manager in assigning work tasks to others within the group.
  • Apply sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices in a broad array of assignments related to nuclear reactors. You will perform design of electrical equipment and systems, help develop and review potential electrical projects, and oversee engineering support during electrical project implementations.
  • Perform System Engineering role for reactor designs performed by design agents and for modifications to assigned existing electrical systems and development of new system capabilities as directed by the engineering manager.
  • Provide installation and commissioning support for assigned reactor systems
  • Configuration Management of assigned reactor systems
  • Interface with the reactor design agents throughout the reactor life-cycle

  • Utilize your experience in the design and installation of nuclear reactor electrical and instrument and controls systems
  • Understand applicable codes and standards such as NEC and IEEE standards for nuclear reactors
  • Utilize experience with configuration management of drawings and engineering documentation
  • Communicate with a variety of colleagues at all levels
  • Analyze and highly complex solutions
  • Utilize knowledge with operation of variable frequency drives and communication systems.
  • Utilize basic knowledge of building management systems and instrument and control of HVAC units


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 5-8 years relevant engineering experience, or a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3-6 years relevant engineering experience, or a PhD in Electrical Engineering and 2-4 years relevant engineering.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Salary Grade: PR0300 - 220 ($110,316 - $181,956) / PR0400 - 230 ($124,368 - $211,596)

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
