Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering over 200 Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer, Industrial Systems to help build the network that powers the world's largest online services and who will be the mastermind behind designing cutting-edge systems.

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, Industrial Systems, your role will encompass the entire lifecycle of innovative datacenter systems, from conceptualization to deployment. You'll collaborate closely with our product managers and architects to ensure our innovative solutions are safe, effective , and practical. Familiarity with various datacenter platforms, a deep understanding of mechatronics systems, and hands-on experience in collaborative automation systems design are essential for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of novel datacenter systems.
  • Collaborate with product managers and architects to understand and refine requirements.
  • Design datacenter systems that meet business needs and constraints.
  • Ensure the functionality, reliability, and efficiency of datacenter systems.
  • Keep abreast of the latest advancements in the field to introduce innovative datacenter solutions.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years' professional experience designing & deploying collaborative automation systems
  • 1+ years' experience designing & testing prototype hardware in a lab environment
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with collaborative automation systems design and development
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning
Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
