Seattle, Washington
Employer: Amazon
Industry: Systems, Quality, \u0026 Security Engineering
Salary: $121000 per year
Job type: Full-Time
Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to these questions and you'll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply cutting edge advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers' experiences in ways we can't imagine yet. We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.
The Manipulation Robotics group develops robotic material handling products that increase the safety and efficiency of our fulfillment operations. Our products are deployed across the Amazon Fulfillment Network, automating material flow to reduce operational costs, increase throughput, and enable consistent quality. Our workcells are integrated into broader solutions for storage, packaging, sortation, and transportation of items and packages. The Team consists of engineers and scientists responsible for new product introduction from early technology exploration to large-scale deployed systems.
Amazon Robotics is seeking a Senior Interdisciplinary Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team that provides leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment. In this role, you will:
Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems
Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale
Break down and frame problems using con-ops, use cases, structural/functional decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams
Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale
Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, MATLAB, Python, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems
Perform technical risk assessments (such as TRL, Gap Analysis, FMEDA, HARA, etc.), devise mitigation plans, and create system test strategies
Develop and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies and plans in support of program learning, technical risk reduction, verification, and validation
Drive and prioritize execution of system test campaigns that span lab and field testing environments in collaboration with subsystem development and test teams (test readiness reviews, test execution, post-test analysis and reporting)
Mentor junior engineers in engineering best practices, and participate in hiring of new team member
