Job Overview:

The Sr. Internal Auditor provides independent, objective assurance services designed to add value and improve the companies' operations. The Sr. Internal Auditor also serves as a resource to leadership by analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of key financial, operational and system controls across the region's entities.

The position requires an individual who is ambitious, self-directed, and capable of working autonomously or with the broader executive team to achieve the business and financial goals of the company. The role has a mix of recurring responsibilities and initiative-based work that provides a high degree of exposure to department and company executive management.

Compensation: $80K-$90K

FirstService Residential will compensate the successful candidate in accordance with the posted range. The salary or wage paid to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, education, and specific job responsibilities. For positions designated at a client's property, the salary or wage will also be premised upon the client's directive. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ability to surface vulnerabilities, reduce exposures and improve operations
  • Ability to assist with change management projects
  • Brings a systematic and disciplined approach to assessing whether the companies' internal controls and operations are functioning effectively
  • Assists with designing and preparing audit programs to accomplish audit objectives
  • Conducts field work, including analyzing control design and operating practices, as well as testing transactions and results
  • Evaluates the adequacy of operational and systems controls, identifying control and process improvements. Reports results in accordance with pre-defined timelines, creating and maintaining dashboards and ad hoc analyses as needed.
  • Provides recommendations for improvement and follows up, ensuring significant findings remain open until completed.
  • Prepares appropriate and effective reports and presentations, audit results and training, as warranted, to a variety of audiences, including executives, clients, and employees
  • Aids in developing and maintaining a calendar of internal audit test-work, defining the cadence so that critical controls receive greatest attention
  • Applies analytical techniques to gather, review, analyze and summarize information and data
  • Understands source systems as necessary to obtain financial and operational information for above activities and analyses.
  • Maintains an independent and objective attitude
  • Exercises interpersonal skills and judgment required for sensitive assignments
  • Conducts special studies and consulting assignments as warranted
  • Other duties as assigned

  • A solid understanding of financial statements and accounting processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of auditing standards and approaches, internal controls, processes, and financial reporting knowledge
  • High degree of business acumen and analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to synthesize information into actionable analyses and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated integrity in research, testing and analysis, as well as a commitment to accuracy

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • 3+ years of business and audit experience
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Certified Fraud Examiner or Certified Internal Auditor designation is a plus
  • Proficient in English
  • Bilingual Spanish Helpful
  • Excellent General Math Skills

Work Environment:

General hours are 8:00 - 5:00 based on business needs.

Based on business needs, hours over and above normal office hours will occur.

Based on business needs, there may be hours worked on weekends and holidays.

Consistent and regular attendance required.

Travel:
  • Some travel will be required - not expected to exceed 15 - 25%.
