Description
The Department of Public Safety at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for a Senior Police Dispatcher.
Job Duties:
• Operate and supervise the communication branch of the department to include the police radio, campus police emergency lines, campus operator lines, police computer log of activities, issuance of equipment, lost and found procedures, and receive and disseminate information in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Hire, train, schedule, and monitor/supervise student dispatchers to ensure the communications branch of the department is positioned and operational at all times.
• Provide continuous in-service training for student dispatchers to insure proficiency and professionalism of the communications operation.
• Other related duties as directed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualification
• High school degree or equivalent and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Work related experience demonstrating good work ethics and some supervision.
• Ability to operate the police radio.
• Ability to perform under stressful situations.
• Skills needed:
o Effective written and oral communications skills,
o Computer skills,
o Personnel management/motivational skills,
o Planning/scheduling skills, and
o Training skills.
• Must be able to pass an extensive background check.
• Must be able to work evening and/or midnight shifts.
• Successful candidates must be able to pass a physical and psychological exam.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 2 years of accredited college credit.
• Expanded computer skills.
• Expanded supervision experience.
