The Department of Biomedical Sciences (formerly Basic Medical Science ) was established in 1998 in response to recommendations by the American Association of Medical College's Liaison Committee on Medical Education following an accreditation inspection. The department was initially charged with the responsibility of improving the quality and relevance of basic science education for medical students. As the department has matured, we have also focused on developing research programs in specific biomedically related disciplines.
Job Description
This position focuses on research and student training opportunities associated with the UMKC School of Medicine rural medicine program. The position is focused primarily on conducting research, mentoring and training students in research, and teaching research courses associated with new programs and grant funding. The position reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Rural Initiatives.
The position requires being in-person and on-site at the UMKC School of Medicine in Kansas City as well as School of Medicine building in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Job Duties:
- Assist in accomplishing goals associated with the Health Resource and Service Administration grants to recruit and train students to practice medicine in rural, tribal, and medically underserved communities.
- Run the day-to-day operations of the research lab and train students in research. Design experiments, carry out experiments, collect data, analyze data, draft manuscripts while training students in these areas.
- Design and teach an introduction to research course as well as a capstone research course for a newly developed post-bachelorette program for rural medicine.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
