Description: Job Summary:

Embedded within the Division of Research, the Kaiser Permanente Vaccine Study Center (KPVSC) is a leader in evaluating vaccines with a long history of collaboration with multiple federal agencies, particularly the CDC's Immunization Safety Office. The KPVSC has also been engaged in Phase II, III, and IV vaccine trials, collaborating with the pharmaceutical industry and the FDA to help bring new vaccines into licensure and then to evaluate and ensure their safety. Most recently, the KPVSC was instrumental in all aspects regarding COVID-19 vaccines: conducting clinical trials prior to authorization, monitoring their safety after widespread use (leading the CDC funded Vaccine Safety Datalink surveillance), and assessing their effectiveness through national collaborative research projects. Additionally, KPVSC has played a critical role in monitoring the safety and effectiveness of other vaccines, including influenza, pertussis, measles, respiratory syncytial virus, shingles, and pneumococcal vaccines. Currently, KPVSC has a team of over 40 individuals, including 3 MD/PhD-level investigators, programmer analysts, project managers, research assistants, nurses, and physicians.

We are currently seeking an experienced project manager to provide high-level administrative and scientific support for a portfolio of studies focused on vaccine research.

Oversees the management of all aspects of one or more large scale, complex multi-year, multi-center research projects. Provides technical expertise to functional research units within and across disciplines. Serves as consultant, content expert and advisor for project managers on multiple projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

• As a recognized expert in complex analytic problem solving, project management and client management, designs, develops and directs well-defined research. Develops, interprets and implements standards, procedures, policies and protocols for research programs.


• Supervises and counsels two or more project managers on the day-to-day operations of multiple projects in one or more research disciplines. Ensures Project Managers follow procedures, policies and protocols. Defines scope of work, deliverables and timeframes directly with senior staff and project managers.


• Prepares grant proposals, internal reports and publications independently and collaboratively. Ensures that reports and information disseminated are accurate, timely and consistent and satisfy client needs.


• Manages and balances budgets on projects.


• Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. At any time, Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status. Such changes are generally implemented only after notice is given to affected employees.

Secondary Functions:

This is for 1-2 years. Continuation is contingent upon contract/grant funding.
Basic Qualifications:

Experience

• Minimum eight (8) years of experience in one or more of the technical areas required.

Education

• Bachelors degree in public health, health care administration, epidemiology or other related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.


• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

• Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret quantitative and qualitative analysis.

• Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters degree preferred.


• MPH degree and at least 5 years of project manager experience preferred but not required.
