THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Senior Research Specialist manages human cohort project management, RNA isolation and QC, managing reagents, and writing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works under PI to isolate RNA and DNA from human samples, genotyping, or qRT-PCR.
  2. Prepares experimental design and data analysis with full documentation of experimental procedures and results.
  3. Uses literature and communicates with colleagues or collaborators to design and independently expand upon detailed methods, organize data collection methodology, and document/plan experiments with appropriate quality controls for interpretable outcomes.
  4. Contributes to the preparation of manuscripts, posters, and grants.
  5. Prepares and presents presentations in the department or at conferences.
  6. Collects and analyzes data for accuracy, validity, and integrity. Isolates primary cells.
  7. Conducts experiment optimization.
  8. Works with PI to design and refine new techniques or use new technology to isolate RNA and DNA from patient samples.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field of study (Master's Degree preferred.). (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of wet lab experience at the bench in relevant techniques; OR Master's Degree and two (2) years of wet lab experience at the bench in relevant techniques. Evidence of contribution to publications in scientific journals, abstracts, and presentations preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Extensive knowledge of molecular biology and/or cancer biology.
  • Knowledge of specific techniques/equipment needed: RNA isolation.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and within a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication are essential.
