The Xbox Experiences and Platform Commerce (XPC) group is responsible for ensuring publishers have low friction access to our ecosystem, rich insights into the publishing experience, and a world class platform to provide their content to Gamers around the world. We work closely with partner teams across Xbox and Microsoft, as well as both internal and external game studios and platforms to further these goals. We're always striving to find new and innovative ways of incorporating the latest in design patterns, cloud tech, and machine learning to create better experiences - all while maintaining high availability services and ensuring the safety and security of our customers' data.

Within the XPC group, our team works primarily on high scale, high availability back-end services that power Publisher, Platform and Gamer facing experiences, across Xbox Console and PC Storefronts and beyond.

We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build high quality, reliable Cloud Services. In this role, you will truly own features from start to finish alongside partners and across teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Own features from start to finish. For a given feature you'll be expected to:meet with stakeholders/Product and Program Managers to get the requirements, document the design and review within the team, implement the design, create unit tests on your changes, manage the flighting of the new feature, and implement additional monitoring and metrics as needed for the feature.
  • As a leader in our team, you will also be responsible for driving best practices and mentoring other engineers.
  • Design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions.
  • Adhere to and drive modern software engineering practices through design and code reviews.
  • System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions.
  • Develop "best-in-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
  • Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.
  • Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
  • Gain a working understanding of Microsoft Gaming as a business and collaborate with mentors and leaders to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our customers.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline, AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR equivalent experience.
  • 4 + years experience working with product features end to end.
  • 4 + years designing and developing large scale distributed software services and solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with design, debugging and problem solving.
  • Experience demonstrating customer focus, test engineering and focus on a product quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in shipping high-quality products or services.
  • Familiarity with Azure, web services, multi-tiered client/server distributed applications and cross device testing
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Helm or other related container technologies a plus
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
