Job Description

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Scope: Under supervision of the Medical Director of SUD Education or his/her designee, is responsible for the supervision of SUD education teams including SW IVs, Addiction Counselor, and Peers. Will provide supervisory and advisory services relating to education including but not limited to skill based training, stigma change, care coordination workflows, quality improvement, and tracking.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to the educational team staff assigned
  • Collaborate with senior SUD educational team to create iterative improvements to the curriculum and materials.
  • Collaborate with other senior SUD educational team to recruit, hire, and onboard
  • Educate, clarify, and reinforce learning and application of SUD/clinical evidence-based practices in a variety of clinical settings primarily including outpatient clinics (OMH and OASAS) and in the emergency department
  • Coordinates with site supervisor(s) to develop individualized curricula which may include but not limited to workshops, didactics, hands on role playing, workflow implementation, and quality improvement
  • Monitors and oversees team's progress qualitatively and quantitatively
  • Coordinates staff activities to meet the needs of their assigned units or educational initiative
  • Participates in the formulation of standards, policies, and procedures for orientation, supervision, and in-service training of SUD education team trainees
  • Provides orientation to new staff and updates incumbent staff of changes in policy, procedures, or standards.
  • Oversees trainee's time and leave schedules to ensure patient continuity of care and compliance with network policies and procedures.
  • Monitors educational activities to ensure compliance with all the above.
  • Ensures that staff documents and tracks deliverable
  • Completes performance reviews for team
  • Gathers information needed to complete monthly reports
  • Participates in SUD education Leadership and Improvement Meetings.
  • In the temporary absence of another Senior SUD Education SW Supervisor, may perform the duties of that position as well.
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid license as an LCSW issued by the NYSED, and two (2) years of supervisory experience, as described above.

Department Preferences

  • A minimum of three year's supervisory experience in hospital/community Social Work.

Knowledgeable in:
  • Healthcare operations
  • Behavioral health conditions and treatment modalities
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite
  • Able to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Knowledgeable on advanced behavioral interventions such as CBT, DBT as well as motivational interviewing, harm reduction amongst others
  • Knowledge of hospital and community resources.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Standards, Rules and Regulations
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and discharge planning regulations.
  • Knowledge of Substance Use/Abuse: behaviors, interventions and resources.
  • Knowledge of Child Abuse and Neglect: how to identify and report.
  • Knowledge of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault/Rape, and Elder Abuse
  • Knowledge of screening and assessments for substance use and mental health care
  • Knowledge of NYC DOHMH and NYS OMH/OASAS guidelines
