This position if for an experienced Senior Systems Engineering professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. Working in a focused, cross-functional team of engineers designing and developing aviation products. The candidate should have skills and experience in the major disciplines of systems engineering: modeling and simulation, systems architecture development, requirements development/management, and verification and validation.

This position supports the Ice, Rain & Stall (IRS) Engineering organization. IRS Engineering, as part of the broader Collins Engineering organization, serves the IRS Product Value Stream. IRS products include Ice Detectors, Ice Rate Sensors, Ice Protection Systems, Windshield Ice Protection / Heater Controllers, Angle of Attack Sensors, Stall Warning/Protection Systems, and Windshield Wipers Systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Interact with internal and external customers
  • Effectively accomplishing all systems engineering activities necessary to maintain customer satisfaction and to support execution of project deliverables and milestones
  • Providing system-level engineering expertise to a cross-functional engineering team including management of system-level requirements and supporting allocation of requirements to lower-level functions
  • Establishing and adhering to budget and schedules for system engineering activities
  • Participation in architecture trade studies, modeling/analysis/simulation, component failure mode and effects analysis and safety analysis
  • Participate in the new product design cycle with engineering teams including design reviews
  • Supporting compliance to SAE ARP4754, or other guidelines and internal standards for the development of aircraft systems as required
  • Can multi-task across multiple projects
  • Represent Collins as the primary customer point of contact for technical aspects on projects
  • Active participant in the management of project risks and opportunities, and execution of mitigation actions and contingency plans
  • Exercise technical acuity and an understanding of IRS products/systems, production methods, development processes and support methodologies


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Progressively responsible experience in a systems design environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate teamwork across functions
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident Green Card holder


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong experience in design practices with consideration for system level performance and aerospace certification requirements including SAE ARP4754, RTCA/DO-178, RTCA/DO-254, and RTCA/DO-160
  • Experience with Polarion, DOORS, Rationale Publishing Engine, Cameo (SysML) and Matlab preferred
  • Manufacturing industry experience developing physical products
  • Aerospace industry experience
