POSITION SUMMARY

Supervises and coordinates the activities of the personnel involved in the servicing and chauffeuring of the Authority's utility and emergency service vehicles.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Arranges and coordinates the work schedules and activities of the classifications of Supervisory Chauffeur and Service Truck Chauffeur.
  • Monitors and assists in the implementation of programs and schedules designed to obtain maximum and efficient usage of sectional vehicles.
  • Initiates, monitors, and directs the plans and programs concerning the utilization of sectional manpower and equipment resources.
  • Facilitates the restoration of service interruptions caused by derailments or collisions on rail and bus systems.
  • Dispatches and monitors snow removal operations on service routes and in bus terminals, turnarounds, parking lots, etc.
  • Monitors and maintains documentation of circumstances and conditions requiring the usage of various types of vehicles, equipment, etc. in order to assist in the justification process involved in additional acquisitions.
  • Monitors and coordinates servicing of all non-revenue generating equipment and vehicles operated by the Authority.
  • Monitors contracts to prevent over-expenditures and initiates requests for extensions for necessary.
  • Reviews and recommends specifications for the purchase of new trucks and heavy duty equipment.
  • Assists in the development of the annual budget.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to this position.
  • Supervisory experience in the maintenance and distribution of a motor vehicle fleet including heavy equipment preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.
  • May walk or stand for extended periods of time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of the practices and methods in managing and maintaining emergency and service vehicles.
  • General knowledge of emergency and incident response procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Basic MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to write reports containing technical information.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • General office environment.
  • May be required to work during off hours.
  • Required to be at the scene of major service interruptions or emergency situations in varying weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to usual shop and field conditions, e.g., energized power rails, moving trains, buses and other vehicles.
  • Subject to existing weather conditions when working in the field.
