The Office of Strategic Communications, Health Sciences, is seeking a Senior Writer for the School of Medicine.
The successful candidate will play a significant role in efforts to best position the School of Medicine as one of six renowned schools that fall under the university's Health Sciences umbrella. The six schools include the School of Medicine (SOM), School of Dental Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Nursing and School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
The writer must be a creative self-starter with the ability to gather information and identify stories that support the strategic goals of our growing department.
Content will be both short and long form created for a variety of communications channels, including websites, social media, Pitt Med (the school's award-winning magazine) and press releases.
This is an exciting time for the Office of Strategic Communications, Health Sciences, as we build an integrated communications and marketing infrastructure to elevate the positioning of the Health Sciences. An internationally renowned educational and research powerhouse, Pitt Health Sciences has a demonstrated legacy of advancing scientific discovery, clinical innovation and interdisciplinary training. The researchers, administrators and providers we prepare are leading the future of health care on a global scale.
In 2023, the SOM ranked #6 in NIH research funding to medical schools ($567.9 million). Twelve of the school's disciplines are ranking in the Top 10; 18 are ranked in the Top 20. That same year, 8,722 applicants competed for 148 spots in the first-year class.
The successful candidate will be an initiative-taking strategist and problem solver, an excellent writer with well-honed listening skills and a team player willing to take direction. Versatility, flexibility, curiosity and strong organizational skills will also be important to the success of this role.
