Under general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II), systems architect, is responsible for planning and organizing software systems, responsible for high-level concepts and UI designs for software applications, in charge of using computer code to design and develop software applications, planning the different features of a program and integrating them into a functioning system. Attends training, provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers.

The Information Technology Specialist II will be expected to work in a high-rise office building in Sacramento or Oakland, and optionally hybrid telework with at least two days in the office required. Office is within walking distance of public transportation. Occasional travel to DCT. The position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time, operate a computer for extended periods of time and to move and transport office items in a safe manner. The incumbent must constantly position self to use standard office equipment

Department Information

The SOQ is to elicit information regarding each candidate's interest and experience in relation to this position. Please describe your experience in the following:
  • Describe your experience in implementing ServiceNow solutions in large organizations. Include specific modules or products you have worked with, such as IT Service Management (ITSM), Public Sector Digital Services (PSDS), or HR Service Delivery (HRSD), and outline the scope and scale of the projects.
  • Explain how you have utilized ServiceNow's architecture to design and optimize business processes and workflows. Detail any custom integrations or modifications you have developed, and discuss how you ensured these solutions were scalable, maintainable, and aligned with IT governance and best practices.
  • Provide examples of how you have led cross-functional teams in a ServiceNow environment. Discuss how you managed project timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations, as well as the strategies you used to overcome challenges and ensure the success of the project.

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications related to ServiceNow or IT architecture.
  • Certifications such as ServiceNow Certified System Administrator, ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist, or ServiceNow Certified Application Developer.
  • Several years of experience in ServiceNow implementation and management, preferably in a leadership or architectural role within IT or a related industry.
  • Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge of ServiceNow's suite of services and an understanding of how to leverage its capabilities to meet business needs.
  • Familiarity with IT governance and operational standards such as ITIL.
  • Knowledge of integration methods such as REST, SOAP, and other API services that interact with ServiceNow.
  • Skills:
  • Ability to architect and design ServiceNow solutions including complex configurations and customizations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively address business needs through innovative IT solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with stakeholders, understand their requirements, and explain technical details clearly.
  • Abilities:
  • Ability to manage projects from conception through implementation, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
  • Capable of leading and mentoring a team of developers and analysts, promoting a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology landscapes and to propose innovative solutions that leverage emerging technologies to enhance organizational capabilities.
