Job Description

The Child Protection Coordinator is a key member of the hospital's child protection program, ensuring the implementation of written policies and procedures with respect to responses to victims of child maltreatment. The Child Protection Coordinator is also responsible for identifying and/or supporting the development of innovative and exemplary intervention and prevention resources in consultation with treatment providers, coordinating care within the hospital and with other agencies, providing staff education.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of the Child Protection Program team of physicians, allied health professionals and paraprofessional staff.
  • Assumes clinical responsibility or serve as a clinical consultant for child maltreatment for cases in pediatrics and other areas as requested. Consults with staff regarding clinical issues involved in the identification, assessment, and treatment of suspected child maltreatment.
  • Assists as needed in implementation of the relevant policies and operating procedures regarding suspected child maltreatment.
  • Collects, maintains and analyzes site-specific data on reports made the NY State Central Register.
  • May be asked to work one minor and one major holiday a year.
  • Performs other duties as requested.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid license as an LCSW issued by the NYSED and one (1) year of supervisory experience utilizing casework, group work and/or community organization methodologies.

Department Preferences

3+ years of experience in Medical Social Work and involvement in child protection cases- making reports to child protective services (CPS) and coordinating with CPS and partner agencies.
