The Tesla Energy Service Engineering Infrastructure and Analytics team is looking for a passionate and collaborative Engineering Manager to lead the Service Software team in delivering the best customer experience and fleet availability across the Tesla Energy portfolio through the delivery of scalable and sustainable distributed software applications, impactful and insightful Ui and Ux applications, embedded software tweaks for service, and a myriad of other tools. This role is an integral part of the measurement and improvement of fleet health, and you will be responsible for leading the team to identify and resolve fleet-wide performance, operation, and maintenance challenges across the growing fleet of energy products. You must be a fearless innovator, leader, and technical voice that provides critical development for the Energy business.
This position is well suited for seasoned managers or staff level candidates who want to take the next step and magnify their impact on accelerating the transition to the sustainable energy - this role has a mandate to identify, define and drive tangible change through the organization. As a thought leader within the team, you will be enabled to work across the organization to solve problems and ensure the success of our products working alongside Industrial Energy, Residential Energy, and Solar Product and Supercharger Service Engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, define, and drive architectural and infrastructure improvements to the Tesla Energy Service Engineering software applications, Ux applications, and data engineering products to ensure efficient, effective, and accelerated delivery of business impact
  • Define the best practices for the team's workflows, sprint process and validation strategies
  • Define quarterly strategic goals and drive workflows to achieve these goals
  • Identify new tools and methods for the organization to utilize
  • Manage, direct, grow, and mentor a team of 10+ Software, Data, and Intern Engineers
  • Define and implement robust support and monitoring capabilities to debug, root cause, and apply fixes in a timely manner. Define and manage DevOps / SRE processes and workflows for the team and team's applications to maintain high availability and promptly respond to business impacting incidents
  • Lead the team's collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop the tools and data infrastructure to support the health of the energy fleet through distributed applications, large data set analysis, automated diagnostic tools, and automated responses
  • Complete security and architecture review processes with internal and external auditors
  • Contribute to the product management, product roadmaps and program management of the tools and infrastructure


Requirements
  • 5+ years of software development experience in a related field with 3+ years of leadership/management experience of technical individual contributors including hiring and resourcing roadmaps, performance reviews and personal development planning and execution
  • Product and program management of multiple software engineering programs, and experience in managing resourcing changes alongside ambiguous and changing timelines and reporting progress to executive stakeholders
  • Experience with Golang, Python, Event driven architectures (e.g. Rabbit MQ), distributed computing infrastructure (Kubernetes), Database management (SQL, NoSQL)
  • Understanding of distributed computing, large scale data storage and its processing. Experience with microservices and writing clearly defined contracts between those services
  • Experience with full stack application development. Strong experience and working knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks (React.js, Typescript). - Strong CSS skills and experience working with CSS pre-compilers (SASS, LESS, etc.)
  • Experience using SQL, Python and pandas, Presto, Spark, Hive, Tableau, Airflow, Docker, distributed system optimization (Spark, Presto, Hive) and/or equivalent data engineering and data analytics technologies
  • Experience in predictive failure analytics
  • Experience using Jira, Git, Confluence, and other work management tools
  • Experience delivering C code in a real time embedded environment is nice to have
  • Experience working with renewable energy, batteries, power electronics, charging, EVs, solar cells, and relevant performance tracking/monitoring analytics is preferred

    • Expected Compensation

      $128,000 - $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
