UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Casual Sonographer to join their life-changer team!

This position will work various shifts, including weekend rotations and at least 1 holiday per year. The Sonographer performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. *Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Sonographer Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education. Sonographer rates start at $29.76/hr. Sonographer Adv. rates start at $31.25/hr.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures, adhering to universal protocol standards.
  • Interacts with patients and co-workers, displaying caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
  • Communicates instructions clearly to patients, explaining procedures to alleviate fears.
  • Ensures exams are properly coded, tracked, networked, and charges entered.
  • Identifies patients using two identifiers and reviews patient history and physician orders.
  • Documents patient history in electronic records as required.
  • May handle High-Level Disinfection of devices, supplies, and equipment.
  • Obtains and documents cross-sectional anatomy images, correlating measurements with data charts.
  • Performs technical ultrasound procedures, using appropriate instrumentation and techniques.


Qualifications:

Sonographer
  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.

Sonographer Adv.
  • Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
  • 2 years of ultrasound experience is required.
  • Performance review consistent with minimum of strong/ Solid performance on last performance review.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
