Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs informational and communications work involving the collection of information to develop, create, and produce content and materials for release to various communications media (broadcast, print, digital, and/or social) and for use by the agency, the general public, and other government agencies.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

• Develop social media content aligned with the objectives and priorities of the Office of the Texas Secretary of State.

• Monitor official social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

• Work with the Creative Media Designer to create engaging visual content for social media including graphics, photography and video.

• Collaborate with internal teams to gather information, stories, and updates for social media content creation.

• Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent and timely posting across all social media platforms.

• Monitor social media analytics and metrics to track performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize engagement and reach.

• Stay informed about changes and updates in social media algorithms, features, and best practices, and adapt strategies accordingly.

• Respond to posts and direct messages from customers and direct them to agency resources, as appropriate.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Government or related field. (Relevant work experience with a strong portfolio could be considered in lieu of a degree)

• Proven experience in social media management, preferably in a government agency, political campaign, or related environment.

• Working understanding of various social media platforms, their features, and best practices for content creation, distribution, and engagement.

• Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging messages.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with graphic design tools is preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

• Organized, with the ability to multitask, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines.

• Knowledge of Texas politics, government functions, and current affairs is desirable.

• Experience with social media analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Google Analytics) is a plus.
