Special Education Program Specialist
Providing district-wide support for the Special Education and Health Services Department in the areas of eligibility, assessment, Section 504, and/or behavior as directed by the Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Health Services Supervisor. Providing training for parents pertaining to child behavior as assigned. Assisting in developing eligibility status and goals for 504 Plans as assigned. Assisting in the development and maintenance of 504 Policies and Procedures. Collaborating with school and district staff to effectively implement a Multi-tiered System of Support including academic and behavior support for students. Collaborating with health service providers to meet the needs of students. Coordinating or providing Extended School Year or Homebound services for students as assigned. Assisting in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for Homebound services as assigned. Providing training for district staff as assigned. Assisting classroom teachers with the development of Individualized Education Plans and assisting in all aspects of the Individual Education Plan process from initial Eligibility to Reevaluation as assigned. Performing periodic Individual Education Plan audits in compliance with state and federal regulations as assigned. Assisting schools in developing inclusive and supportive environments for special education students. Maintaining knowledge and awareness of Federal and State Guidelines, Local Board Policies and Procedures, and any other relevant guidance related to Special Education. Participating in grant writing. Attending conferences as directed by the Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Health Supervisor. Effectively communicating orally and in writing with individuals or groups in a professional manner. Providing professional development to district staff as assigned.Maintaining the confidentiality of educational records.Observing special education classrooms to ensure continuous improvement and increased learning as assigned. Participating in all required training and accomplishing personal professional growth. Communicating and clarifying the school system's Special Education, 504, and Student Health mission to students, staff, and community. Obtaining and maintaining all certifications required by the State of Alabama and Jackson County School. Planning and accomplishing personal professional growth and demonstrating professional ethics. Demonstrating proficiency in written and oral communications. Demonstrating the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and goals personally, and support similar efforts on the part of others. Performing any and other essential functions that are within the scope of certifications as assigned by the Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Health Services Supervisor.
Master's Degree in Special Education with additional certification in School Psychometry, Applied Behavior Analysis, School Psychology, or a related field and appropriate State of Alabama certification.
Five years of special education classroom experience. Other combinations of experience and certifications may be considered.
