Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist III, Student Support specializes in dual credit and serves as a primary expert in the dual credit program and its functions for Lone Star College-Montgomery. Maintains queries and reports concerning Exceptional Admit (S09) students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Update or change students' (biographical) information in the system
  • Assist deans in enrolling students in new classes or sections when a class has been cancelled and Notice of Grade Changes for instructors
  • Provide advanced advising for international students on various standard issues impacting them including experiencing cross-cultural, family, personal or economic crisis, which may impact academic performance.
  • Coordinate and plan programs that support the unique needs of F-1 international students, including developing and implementing retention strategies and new student orientation program; initiate, create and teach College Success and SEVIS based workshops.
  • Provide accurate immigration information to international students, monitor and track student immigration status, and maintain appropriate DHS files; advise students with immigration petitions and applications to include processing for new F-1 visas, work permits, reinstatement, and reduced course load authorizations, change of status, medical leave and economic hardship employment authorization
  • Organize SEVIS data processing under the guidelines provided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and maintain data and quality control management
  • Refer and schedule student for testing and enter new student information into college database system
  • Lead the planning and implementation of student programming activities such as new student check-ins and orientations, seminars, special topic workshops, and joint programming with other campus or community entities
  • Mentor the orientation and training of new staff members, draft reports and letters, prepare budgets for ISO programs, represent the office at various meetings, and frame new standards and procedures for serving international students
  • Work collaboratively with program faculty and management to support the development of strategies to enhance student retention.
  • Maintain Queries concerning Exceptional (S09) Admit Students. Queries include student account issues, registration issues, student holds and past due balances
  • Create reports for official day numbers and dual credit embedded course offerings at high schools; collaborate with Outreach in order to increase Dual Credit/Exceptional Admit enrollments
  • Provide/process admissions related documents such as FERPA, Testing Ticket, Bacterial Meningitis, Parental Consent and Waiver Form, etc.; assist students with the Lone Star Website by troubleshooting issues in MyLoneStar, navigating through LoneStar.edu and MyLoneStar, and providing assistance with completing the Lone Star College Admissions Application
  • Conduct appointments with homeschool families to assist with dual credit/exceptional admissions registration and processing
  • Conduct/coordinate in-detail tours of the LSC campus and advertise programs, unique classrooms, resources, and departments
  • While conducting school visits, collaborate/assist high school staff in registering dual credit/exceptional admissions students and providing accurate information about programs and resources; interpret college exam placement scores to determine qualification into the dual credit program; run Below "C" report and inform students about their eligibility in the program
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $33,540 - $38,571

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
