Description
Specimen processing, accessioning in Cerner, Instrument maintenance, Registration in EPIC, Front desk office management, Send outs. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. Good data entry , computer and time management skills. Must have gross room experience. Gross room experience must be indicated on work history for consideration. Gross room involves fresh and formalin fixed tissues. Handling of fresh specimen tissues and excisions from the OR and endoscopy departments. It can be small biopsies as well as large specimens like amputations, placenta, surgical implants etc.
The front office portion of the job involves slides and blocks retrieval and send-outs for molecular testing, for second opinions, for legal cases, tumor boards, outside consults, etc. Specimen processor at the gross room bench also does registration and accessioning, instruments maintenance as well as specimen pickups from OR and Endoscopy along with send-outs of fresh &/or fixed specimen . They are also responsible for inventory upkeep as well as maintenance of daily QC logs in the gross room. They would be required to be well versed with medical terminology, EPIC (Preferred) and Cerner (Preferred). Work through-put needs to be high. There is a fair bit of phone interaction with institutions and doctor's offices so good phone skills and organizational skill along with and good data/computer skills are a must. They would need to be receptive to and comfortable with changing training scenarios to maintain good TATs. Adaptability is key to this.
Two (2) to four (4) yearsâ experience in a healthcare-related setting REQUIRED. Five (5) to eight (8) yearsâ experience in a clinical laboratory setting will be considered in lieu of advanced coursework. Experience with Cerner Millenium LIS â PREFERRED. Experience with EPIC HIS - PREFERRED
