DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, responsible for the daily bussing and cleaning of the Price Center interior and exterior dining areas, plaza, and elevated balconies. Work will be performed in the University Centers.

Incumbent will sweep and mop, wipe counter-tops, remove and load trash into custodial carts, and operate a trash and cardboard compactor. Incumbent washes cleaning towels, mops, trash receptacles and windows. Cleans microwaves, video monitors, carpet mats and runners. Clean and disinfect restrooms including sanitizing all restroom fixtures, replenishing paper and soap supplies, mopping floors and removing trash. Incumbent will be responsible for locking and unlocking doors and access points.

~ Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.(During Summer), and/or 4:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Work shifts will be 40 hours per week performed Monday through Sunday: Hours may fluctuate based on operational needs.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions and six months of experience in a custodial cleaning operation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Physical ability to perform bussing duties which include continuous and repetitive motion such as walking, bending, sweeping, wiping, reaching. Must be able to physically push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and perform custodial related cleaning and bussing duties in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability to use and safeguard university building keys, phones, two-way radios.
  • Knowledge in the application of commonly used cleaning chemicals and solutions.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing.
  • Good oral and written communication skills including tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality, with ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor while interacting with a variety of individuals and groups at all levels of the university community from diverse socio-economic to cultural/ethnic backgrounds and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with, train, and motivate student (bussing) employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain acceptable department attendance standards.
  • Must be flexible and able to effectively adjust to changing priorities.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Ability to push, lift, carry and pull 50lbs.
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
  • This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $40,653 - $50,550 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.47 - $24.21
