Summary

The Senior Painter performs specialized painting and refinishing duties in maintaining the appearance of the Board's facilities. Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces; operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; keep computerized records and prepare reports; perform the more technically difficult work of the section. Provide guidance and technical expertise to team members.

Position Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience. Must possess five (5) years of specific experience. Comprehensive knowledge of methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment of the painting trade is required. Knowledge of residential and commercial/industrial practices and processes of the painting trade; extensive knowledge of paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, paint removers, and related materials, and of their properties and application; applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; occupational hazards of the painting trade and precautionary measures to be observed. Must be skilled in mixing paints, stains and matching colors. Must possess general ability to read blueprints. Must know how to safely erect scaffolds. Must possess Visual Color Discrimination skills and be able to accurately match or detect differences among colors, including shades of color and brightness. Must be able to interact and display tact and diplomacy at all levels within the Board staff. Must show a demonstrable commitment to a strong customer service philosophy.

Performs a full range of duties without close supervision. Independently carries out assignments and coordinates the work with others. Must possess the ability to inspect and troubleshoot problems and take the necessary actions as needed. Uses technical knowledge and experience to identify, plan, and execute work to be done. Provides guidance to team members on technical issues. Determines methods and approaches to problem resolution.

Provide technical expertise and guidance to other team members (including any apprentices) in all areas of the job. This includes demonstrating proper work methods, answering questions from co-workers regarding procedures, work orders, policies, written instructions and other directions, and assuring adherence to appropriate safety procedures. Perform the more technically difficult work of the section. The ideal candidate is skilled in drywall finishing up to level five finishes.

Physical Demand/Work Environment:

Prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and where the surfaces to be coated are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires considerable bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, handle materials and equipment that weigh 50 pounds and over. Therefore, must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Work is done inside and outside and may be in confined spaces such as crawl spaces and attics, where dirt, spray, and fumes are usually present and where moderate to high noise levels from operating equipment may be present. Required to prepare and coat surfaces outside in all weather conditions. Subject to cuts, abrasions, and contusions.

This position will work second shift from 2:00-10:00 pm is required to work onsite in Washington DC.
