Who We Are:

The Microencapsulation Section within the Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Division has over 65 years of experience in formulation, process development, and testing of microencapsulated products for a wide range of industries and controlled release applications.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Provide mechanical support for microencapsulation formulation and process development efforts.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain safe laboratory operations.
  • Become experienced in microencapsulation processes to include spray drying, fluid bed coating, and emulsion-based techniques.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain microencapsulation laboratory and production equipment to include atomizers, coaters, freeze dryers, and mills.
  • Assist in chemical laboratory to include: cleaning glassware, handling chemicals, preparing solutions, setting up equipment, and chemical disposal .
  • Document experiments in laboratory notebooks.
  • Relay technical information effectively.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) in the workplace as required.
  • Ensure lab operations are performed according to safety requirements.


Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Associates in chemistry or related area of science preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years: Experience in chemistry, biology, environmental, medical, or testing laboratory setting.
  • 5+ years: Comfortable with hand tools and disassembling / assembling of equipment.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
