Description
Prepare instrumentation engineering/design deliverables, including Instrument Index, Instrument Data Sheets, Instrument Installation Details, Instrument Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, and Loop Diagrams. Prepare control systems (DCS and/or PLC) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Data Sheets. Prepare controls design deliverables, including I/O list, Process Control Narratives, Graphic Sketches, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Alarm Rationalization, and manage third party control system suppliers to comply with the control system design requirements, including participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Prepare I&C purchase specifications, review bids, make technical recommendations and manage the overall purchase, review of I&C packages, and review of vendor documentation. Develop P&ID's for various projects. Perform process measurements such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, analyzers, and control valves. Utilize knowledge of various technologies for selecting appropriate I&C application. Perform preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, controls valves, relief valves, and thermowells. Develop level sketches in conjunction with multiple departments. Responsible for applying knowledge of commonly used I&C engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services industry. Provide leadership and guidance for less experienced engineers. Responsible for compliance with company and project site safety policies. Complies with all policies and standards. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel up to 25% for internal meetings, client & site visits.
Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus five (5) years of applicable engineering experience.
Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master's degree, in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus four (4) years of applicable engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of described experience.
Must have four (4) years of experience in each of the following:
Transportation Worker Identification Card or ability to obtain is a minimum requirement for this position.
Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel up to 25% for internal meetings, client & site visits.

- Developing Instrument Index, I&C Cable Schedule, Instrument Datasheets, Instrument Purchase Specifications, Bid Evaluation, and Supplier Shop Drawing Reviews.
- Basic, preliminary sizing of control valves, relief valves, and flow elements, and performing thermowell stress calculations.
- Producing detailed design drawings, including Instrument Installation Details, Wiring Drawings, Loop Diagrams, Location Plans (using 3D software).
- Preparing controls system (DCS, SIS, PLC) specification, including Cause-and-Effect Diagram and I/O list.
- Reviewing basic Process Control Narratives.
- Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) participation.
- Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) to develop Instrument Index, Instrument Datasheets, Wiring Drawings, and Loop Diagrams.
- Performing material takeoff's, basic estimates, and field walkdowns.
- High Integrity Pressure Protection (HIPPS), Fire and Gas (F&G) Detection, and analytical instrumentation.
