Job Description

Tour I: 8:00 P.M - 8:30 A.M

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position primary functions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Demonstrates competency in age-specific neonatal assessment and care.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in providing age-appropriate care
  • Re-assesses patients needs and/or response to treatment and properly confer with physician/provider
  • Manages medication according to established policy, using appropriate age specific techniques and devices, including the Broselow tale as appropriate
  • Demonstrates venipuncture/peripheral IV insertion skills
  • Utilize available technology and equipment including invasive and noninvasive biophysical parameter monitoring system in providing patient care
  • Transport the critically ill patients to the unit and communicate significant findings to receiving staff using appropriate hand off technique
  • Collaborate with patients' family/guardians in providing age-appropriate care
  • Complies with Child/Elder Abuse/Neglect identification and reporting
  • Participates in Unit Performance Improvement activities
  • Conforms to regulatory agency standards that guide care in the assignment specialty
  • Demonstrates commitment to continued professional development, including Specialty Board Certification.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State;
2. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
4. EPIC (EMR) strong desire
5. Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and BLS prior to NICU assignment or obtains by 2 months of hire
6. Complete comprehensive orientation including clinical rotations
7. One (1) year Medical Surgery RN experience in acute setting required

Special Note:
For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
