What You Will Do

Use your administrative management skills to support national security! We are looking for a senior-level staff operations manager to support the Infrastructure Services Division Office (ISD-DO). ISD-DO provides robust and powerful Information Technology infrastructure, allowing LANL to work securely and seamlessly. The Staff Operations Manager 3 will lead administrative management functions for the ISD Division Office. Key areas of responsibility will be planning, coordinating, performing, and directing the administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities. The Staff Operations Manager will serve as a key advisor on division staff management, facilitate the strategic development of division objectives, and provide tactical planning for daily operations across the division.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Experience providing high-level administrative support in a busy office environment requiring knowledge of and consultation on specialized functions, such as financial management, travel, procurement, strategic planning, and complex calendar management.
  • Strong understanding of budget, including reporting and charging (or similar).
  • Strong understanding of collaboration software, including Microsoft Teams.
  • High-level knowledge of Microsoft Office, including the demonstrated ability to interpret data and information to produce Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers and key contacts, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Advanced supervisory experience with an excellent record of team building, collaboration, and leadership. Experience guiding, mentoring, and growing the professional development of personnel; and leading operational teams to success.
  • Demonstrated experience with the development and support of process improvements to meet high-level, complex operational and business needs.
  • High-level experience with staffing plans, assisting in the management of headcount to budgets and forecasts, division-level personnel management, such as managing onboarding and development activities, administration of rewards and recognition programs, and more.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of space management and office utilization.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory structure and administrative processes, such as procurement, domestic and foreign travel; human resources; and/or information technology systems.
  • Active DOE "Q" clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
